Lights…Camera…Carnival Celebration!
New Offerings to Include Extravagant Aerialist Performances, High-Tech Multimedia Shows and Celebrations Galore

With a ship as expansive and exciting as Carnival Cruise Line’s new Carnival Celebration, there will be countless ways to celebrate with never-before-seen live entertainment.

From new main production shows and aerialist acts to game shows, parties and events, the ship’s new unique offerings have been designed to be as much celebrations as they are performances, with elevated and engaging presentations, upbeat vibes, energetic music, playful choreography, colorful scenes, and tons of fun.

“At home, when the sun goes down, normally it’s time to wind down, but not on a Carnival cruise,” said Chris Nelson, vice president of entertainment for Carnival Cruise Line. “We wanted to give our guests new reasons to celebrate nights at sea with us on Carnival Celebration and have designed a collection of new shows and other types of entertainment where eye-catching aerialists, cutting-edge technology and next-level talent will dazzle our guests every evening.”

And it wouldn’t be a Carnival cruise without new parties, of course! From Celebration Happy Hour at Latitudes Bar, to the new electrifying Evolution mega-dance party hosted by the ship’s pro DJ, there will be no shortage of ways to celebrate on Carnival Celebration.

In addition to Color My World, Playlist Productions will present the enchanting Celestial Strings and Cuban-meets-Latin Amor Cubano shows as well as Center Stage’s festival-inspired We Are One performance.

Carnival Celebration will debut this November from the redesigned state-of-the-art Terminal F at Port Miami, the line’s third terminal at the port and its largest in South Florida. The ship will launch year-round, seven-day cruises to the Eastern and Western Caribbean beginning Nov. 21.

Ireland Named Friendliest Country by Condé Nast

Ireland has been named Friendliest Country in Europe in Condé Nast Reader’s Choice Awards!
Citing the “breweries and lively atmosphere of Dublin”, but also the wonderful natural landscape across the length and breadth of the island.

Beating off stiff competition from Portugal at number two, and Greece at number three, the awards were voted for by Condé Nast readers who voted in their thousands. The Condé Nast Readers’ Choice Awards are the most important awards in the travel industry, celebrating the ultimate places, movers and fixers on the planet.

In addition, Adare Manor Hotel was voted one of the Best Resorts in the world. The 5* Hotel in County Limerick was named as winner in the Rest of Europe category, with The Westbury in Dublin also scooping the award for Best Hotel in Ireland.

Condé Nast were glowing about the attractions of Ireland: “Giant’s Causeway in County Antrim, for example, is an area of around 40,000 interlocking basalt columns – formed during an ancient volcanic eruption – and was named the fourth greatest natural wonder in the United Kingdom. Then there’s the Cliffs of Moher in the south, rising to 214 metres in places, and offering visitors vistas across to the Aran Islands in Galway Bay, the Maumturks and Twelve Pins mountain ranges to the north.”

“Again and again, our research shows us that the friendliness of our people is one of our unique selling points,” said Tourism Ireland chief executive Niall Gibbons. “It is the warm welcome and the ‘craic’ here that resonates with our overseas visitors and makes the island of Ireland such a great choice for a short break or holiday.”

Aeroplan launches HotelSavers, raising the bar for travel rewards

  • Members can use points to book top hotel brands worldwide with up to 30% fewer points
  • 39 hotel brands across 11 chains to participate at launch
  • Another global first for Aeroplan, helping to cement its position as Canada’s go-to travel rewards program for travelers—both frequent and occasional

Aeroplan, Canada’s leading travel loyalty program, today launched HotelSavers, allowing members to book stays with Aeroplan points at preferential rates at a broad range of acclaimed hotels worldwide.

Aeroplan launches HotelSavers, raising the bar for travel rewards yet again (CNW Group/Air Canada)

“When Canadians want to fly on points, they can already count on Aeroplan as Aeroplan credit card holders can redeem for Air Canada flight rewards for an average of 30% fewer points than if they used points for non-Aeroplan Canadian bank-based travel programs. However, no one has focused on delivering Canadians a great hotel rewards program – that changes today. With HotelSavers, we’re now offering Aeroplan members great options to book hotels using their points – without compromising the excellent value they’ve come to expect. HotelSavers is yet another way we’re investing to solidify Aeroplan as the go-to rewards choice for all Canadians who travel,” said Scott O’Leary, Vice President, Loyalty and Product at Air Canada.

Members get great value for their points with HotelSavers, thanks to Aeroplan’s direct partnerships with hotels and exclusively negotiated redemption rates: savings in points are up to 30% versus non-HotelSavers hotels available on the member exclusive reservation platform. A simple rewards grid makes it easy to know how many points you need for stays at one of eight reward categories, ranging from economy to luxury. There are stays to suit every budget, from as few as 10,000 points per night for a standard room with no restrictions on room availability.

Taxes are always included and all Aeroplan HotelSavers properties offer an option to book a refundable rate. Some HotelSavers properties also offer non-refundable options for even fewer points. Additionally, members have the option to redeem 50/50 (points plus cash) to pay for their stays.

HotelSavers is launching with 39 world-class hotel brands for redemption, including some of the world’s most coveted hotels and unique properties, including:

  • (Luxury) Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts, Taj Hotels, Small Luxury Hotels of the World, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Preferred Hotels & Resorts, Kimpton Hotels and others;
  • (Premium) Le Germain Hotels, Omni Hotels & Resorts, Noble House Hotels & Resorts, Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts, Pullman, Hotel Indigo, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts and others;
  • (Midscale & Economy) Coast Hotels, Holiday Inn Hotels, Novotel Hotels & Resorts, Alt Hotels; Ibis and Ibis Styles;

HotelSavers offers the best member value for Aeroplan points outside of flights. In addition, borrowing from the best of Aeroplan flight redemptions, there are aspirational “sweet spots” to uncover where value on hotels is even better than the typical value per point when purchasing flights.

Examples of Canadian locations include five-star hotels like the Shangri-La Vancouver and the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto, which can be booked for as little as 45,000 points and 35,000 points per night respectively; plus both the InterContinental Montreal and the Le Germain Charlevoix Hotel & Spa can be booked for as little as 25,000 points per night, all including taxes. For international locations, the Fairmont Orchid in Hawaii and the Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa in the Cayman Islands can be booked for as little as 75,000 points and 55,000 points per night respectively, including taxes. Members should look for the “HotelSavers” tag on properties and see the value for themselves.

“As one of the world’s largest hospitality companies, we have more than 6,000 hotels and 17 brands globally to meet the needs and budgets for all types of travelers. From Holiday Inn Express to Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants to InterContinental Hotels, we have a wide range of properties that allow our guests to craft the hotel experiences and rewards that work best for them. We are proud to now be able to offer Aeroplan members amazing value at many of our properties around the world through HotelSavers,” said Heather Balsley, SVP Global Loyalty and Partnerships, IHG Hotels & Resorts.

“We pioneered the boutique hotel concept in Canada and we are honoured to extend our famous hospitality to even more Aeroplan members as one of the select few hotel groups in the world in the HotelSavers network. As the only genuinely Canadian hotel group in our country, working with Canada’s flag carrier, Air Canada, is a perfect pairing,” said Christiane Germain, Co-President, Germain Hôtels.

Since relaunching in 2020, the Aeroplan program has continued to deliver world-class partnerships for its members. On top of its industry-leading, 45 airline partners for flight rewards, the program has expanded to retail partners like Starbucks and Ontario’s LCBO, and additional travel partners like Uber. With HotelSavers, Aeroplan has added over 7,000 points hotels around the world to choose from, giving members even more ways than ever to redeem their Aeroplan points.

TIME magazine introduced the World’s Greatest Places of 2022 and said, “As persistent as the challenges of life in 2022 is the hope that understanding and human connection can be found through travel. So, with much of the global population now vaccinated against COVID-19, world travellers are again hitting the road—and the skies. The hospitality industry is reopening and excited to safely welcome them and revitalise local communities.”

Ahmedabad and Kerala have been named by TIME magazine among the 50 extraordinary destinations to explore in its list of the World’s Greatest Places of 2022. These are two major tourist destinations in India. Besides Ahmedabad and Kerala, other cities which made to the list of top 50 include Seoul, Buahan in Bali, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, and many more.

The Kerala tourism department is elated over TIME magazine shortlisting the state as one among the 50 extraordinary destinations in the world to explore in 2022.

Kerala is ranked ninth in the “World’s Greatest Places 2022” list as an eco-tourism spot. The US magazine wrote that Kerala has spectacular beaches and lush backwaters, temples, and palaces and is known as ‘God’s Own Country’ with good reason.

The new project of the tourism department ‘Karavan Meadows’ also finds a mention in the TIME magazine report which is considered by the department as a recognition of its caravan tourism project.

The magazine said that just like the houseboat tourism promoted by the state, caravan tourism is also expected to follow suit with a similar promise of sustainable tourism.

RIU celebrates 25 years in Mexico

In the summer of 1997, RIU inaugurated the Hotel Riu Yucatan in Playa del Carmen. At the time, this represented both a challenge and a milestone in the chain’s expansion plans as it was its first hotel in Mexico. However, little did we know what this step would mean for the hotel chain in the long run. This year marks the 25th anniversary of RIU Hotels & Resorts in Mexico, a country that has become RIU’s main international destination with over 20 hotels in five Caribbean and Pacific states, which have a total of 12,000 rooms and provide employment to almost 9,000 collaborators.
gfdgfdgThe Hotel Riu Yucatan, in Playa del Carmen, was the first RIU hotel in Mexico. It opened in 1997 and it was totally refurbished in 2013.
Mexico means so much to RIU that almost 40% of its global talent is Mexican, compared to the 18% that is Spanish, yet more proof that it is RIU’s number one destination. What’s more, the authorities’ commitment to keeping the country’s borders open throughout the pandemic helped RIU to keep its hotels operating, making Mexico the lungs that allowed the rest of the company to continue breathing during this time.
As the chain’s presence in the country means so much to both RIU as a company and the Riu family, in 2022 it will commemorate this 25th anniversary to express its profound gratitude to the country, to its professionals, for its good relationship with the authorities and, of course, to national guests from Mexico, 850,000 of whom visited RIU’s hotels in 2021, not to mention its Mexican suppliers, who provide all types of goods to its hotels, 98% of which are Mexican.
In an informative breakfast meeting that took place during the Tianguis Turístico 2022 event held in Acapulco, Managing Director, Joan Trian Riu, and Mexico’s Secretary of State for Tourism, Miguel Torruco, presented the most significant figures and milestones from RIU’s time in Mexico to an audience including the authorities, the media and tour operators. What’s more, the 25th anniversary video was premiered during this meeting. Through the voices of the company’s most important professionals in the country, this video explains what Mexico means to RIU and how much it has learnt over the course of these years.
RIU has planned a long list of actions that will take place throughout the year to celebrate such an important anniversary. They will take place with guests, employees and partners on social networks, in the media or in hotels.RIU has learnt so much about so many different areas during its time in Mexico, and this knowledge has had a profound impact on the company, which is now present in 20 countries. For example, the country’s adverse weather conditions and earthquakes have meant that Mexico has some of the strictest safety regulations and most prestigious structural engineers in the world. That is why Mexican professionals work on RIU construction projects in the rest of America and worldwide.
The iconic Hotel Riu Palace Peninsula in Cancún, opened in 2012, is the project that the RIU Architecture and Projects teams in Mexico feel most proud of.
Mexico has an astoundingly rich and varied food culture. Thanks to their talent and professionalism, many Mexican chefs that start working for RIU in Mexico subsequently travel to different destinations to take on head chef positions. This is also the case with Mexican technical service managers, who are chosen to be in charge of hotel maintenance in a variety of countries.
The Hotel Riu Yucatan was the first to offer specialty restaurants in its All Inclusive offer.The cocktail menu offered in all RIU’s hotels worldwide has a profound Mexican influence thanks to the country’s strong tradition of cocktail making. In addition, the enthusiasm and professionalism of the entertainment teams in Mexico has made this country the destination of choice to try out new ideas such as the Riu Party events, which began and were perfected in Los Cabos before being introduced in many other destinations.Jungle, Neon, White and Pink: they are the four thematic parties that Riu Party has offered since it was opened in the Hotel Riu Santa Fe, Los Cabos, in 2018.However, the excellent service offered at all RIU hotels in Mexico is down to the talent of the chain’s Mexican collaborators. Their commitment, friendliness, hospitality and professionalism make it possible for RIU to welcome 1.6 million guests into its hotels in Mexico each year: guest who go home having fully enjoyed their holidayRIU opened its first city hotel in Mexico in 2011. The Riu Plaza Guadalajara has become, together with Puente Matute Remus, in the symbol of modernity of the city.
RIU also works to support communities and biodiversity in Mexico. One of the most important projects is the chain’s work with Fundación Aitana, through which RIU funds all chemotherapy costs at Cancun General Hospital. RIU also supports Save The Children, Dr. Sonrisas and Coco’s Bienestar Animal, and has a coral restoration programme alongside Oceanus.For all of the reasons above, RIU’s commitment to Mexico continues in 2022 and it will open two new hotels that are currently being built in the country later this year. The Riu Latino on Costa Mujeres will open in October, while the Riu Palace Kukulkan will open in November in Cancun.For further information please visit:
